A New Standard for Healthcare in Honduras- Established in February 2017 in Choluteca, the Instituto Educativo de Transformación Integral (IETI) is more than just a school—it is a pioneering force for wholistic education. As the first technical nursing high school in Honduras, IETI was born from a visionary partnership between missionaries Larry and Angie Overholt of World Gospel Mission, the Ohio State University (OSU) College of Nursing, and the Honduran Ministry of Education. Together, these organizations designed IETI to bridge a critical gap in the national healthcare system, empowering a new generation of medical professionals to transform their communities from the heart of southern Honduras.
The Mission: Transforming Honduran Healthcare- In Honduras, the healthcare landscape has historically relied on nurses' aides who often have limited formal education. IETI was created to elevate the standard of care by providing a rigorous, three-year technical degree within a high school setting.
Impact on the Community-By the time a student reaches the 12th grade, they have completed extensive clinical hours, making them immediate assets to local hospitals and clinics. This model does more than improve patient outcomes; it provides a direct path out of poverty for students.
Larry and Angie Overholt served as career missionaries with World Gospel Mission between 1980 and 2023.
